Wildlife viewing in the Fanes nature park
In this varied environment, wildlife finds space between sheltered areas and open landscapes. The mountains around Camping Sass Dlacia are home to discreet presences, revealed only to those who observe with respect and follow nature’s rhythms.
Wildlife in the Dolomites moves with altitude, light, and the seasons. Around Camping Sass Dlacia, forests, meadows, cliffs, and high plateaus form quiet habitats where animals live freely. With a slow pace and attentive eye, subtle signs and brief encounters reveal a mountain world that is alive.
Creatures of the forest
At the doorstep of the Fanes–Sennes–Braies Nature Park, the forests surrounding Sass Dlacia are home to a surprising variety of animals.
Squirrels dart among roots, hares move quietly through clearings, and foxes weave between trees at dawn. Deers and roe deers often appear during the calm hours of morning and evening, while martens, badgers, and weasels wander mostly at night.
Signs of their presence - tracks, calls, sudden movement- remind you that the woods are full of life, even when you don’t see every creature directly.
Slow down, stay quiet, and the forest will begin to show itself.
Wildlife of the high altitudes
Above the treeline, the Dolomites become brighter and more exposed, and the wildlife changes with the terrain.
Marmots whistle across the meadows, chamois move quickly across steep rock, and Alpine ibex stand confidently on narrow ridges. Birds shift with altitude too: mountain swallows skim the cliffs and, if you’re lucky, you may see the golden eagle circling high above.
Life here is tough and beautifully adapted, offering unforgettable encounters in wide, open spaces where the mountains feel truly wild.
